Thomas “Tom” Wilson Gerkin

Thomas W. Gerkin 81, of Shoals was called home to be with his wife Judy on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Tom was born on Mach 14, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Clay Marshall and Geneva Gerkin.

Tom was a 1960 graduate of Shoals High School. He later joined the Navy during the Vietnam War and serviced his country as an diesel mechanic for the Naval fleet. After his honorable discharge he began his career at Crane Naval Base as an engineer. Tom married the love of his life Judith Ann Johnson on May 13, 1967. He and his sweet Jude spent nearly 50 years in love until her passing on February 27, 2016.

Tom was an honorable man who always put his family first. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and old muscle cars.

Those left to mourn the loss of Tom are; his children, Misty Gerkin, Shawn Gerkin, and Angelique Gerkin; and three grandchildren, Nicholas “Nick” Gerkin (Breanna),Alexandria “Alex” Gerkin, and Noah Gerkin.

Tom was preceded in death by; his parents; wife, Judy Gerkin; and a sister Mary Woody; and a niece, Theresa Woody.

There will be private military honors for Tom at Spring Hill Cemetery on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.
