Mary Becher Obituary

Mary Catherine Becher, a cherished matriarch of 86, left this world peacefully with her sons at her side on April 15, 2024. Born in Perry County, Indiana on January 14, 1938, Mary's life was one of dedication to her family, church, and her community. She departed from her beloved home of Vincennes, Indiana, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.

Mary was the loving hub of the family, gracing the lives of her children, Gordon with his wife Jennifer, and Kevin, all of Vincennes. Her warmth and gentleness shone through as she always talked of her grandchildren, Donald, Andrew, Kyle, and Carlee, and cherished every moment with them and also her great-grandchildren, Cruz, Paislee, and Kason. Mary is also survived by her sister, Gail Berry, and her husband Norman of St. Charles, MO. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Josephine Flamion Sinclair and Cecil Sinclair Sr., her brother Cecil Sinclair Jr., and her beloved husband, Donald Frank Becher, who died in 2018, who was her total soulmate and whom she shared her life with for 58 years of marriage, being married on October 29, 1960, in Leopold, Indiana.

Mary's professional life was characterized by her loving service as a registered nurse, spanning over 50 years. A graduate of the St. Mary's School of Nursing, she started her career at Good Samaritan Hospital and moved to geriartric care facilities including Crestview and Gentle Care Nursing Home, having served as Director of Nursing. She later worked for insurance companies doing insurance medical exams for clients. She was an embodiment of compassion, finding joy in helping others through the healing arts. Her commitment to her community and church was evident in her active participation in running the country store for the St. John's Church picnics, St. John's Alter Society, both as a member and office holder, and the Knox County Homemakers Association, having been named the 2005 Knox County Homemaker of the Year. Mary also served as a eucharistic minister for St. John's Catholic Church and in 2012, Mary was honored with the Simon Brute Award, a true testament to her faith and lasting impact.

An avid crafts enthusiast, she took pleasure in knitting and crocheting but her passion was sewing. She loved to sew for people and do alterations. It gave her such pride to sew projects and wardrobes for people and proudly enjoyed displaying her work in 4-H open classes at the Knox County Fair and with the Knox County Sewing Guild. Mary also enjoyed the camaraderie of card games with friends and family. Those who knew her will forever remember Mary as a loving and gentle woman whose life was infused with kindness and care for all.
