Linda Homann Obituary

Linda Ann Homann, 85, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends Sunday, September 11 at the Villages at Oak Ridge, Washington, Indiana. She was born in Washington on December 30, 1936, to the late Dr. Frederick J. and Catherine (Ayers) Homann.

Linda was a 1954 graduate of Washington Catholic High School and attended Washington University in St. Louis. She later graduated from the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City and began her secretarial career at the corporate headquarters of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). She later worked as the secretary to the president of Hertz Corporation and ended her career as an executive assistant with an international company. Linda returned to Indiana often to visit family and friends. Due to health reasons, she remained in Washington and became a resident of the Washington Nursing Center in 2009. In 2015, she became one of the first residents of the Villages at Oak Ridge.

Linda enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, spending time outdoors, and especially time with family and her many friends. She loved everything about her more than 50 years in New York City especially attending plays and musicals, dining out, and being the best tour guide for visiting family and friends. Thanks to the Live A Dream program sponsored by the Trilogy Foundation, Linda was able to return to New York City in July. With the assistance of members of the Villages at Oak Ridge staff, she had the opportunity to visit with her longtime friends and her great nephew, attend a Broadway show, and see her old neighborhood. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Homann Schaefer, and her brother-in-law, Richard L. Schaefer, both of Columbus, Indiana. She is survived by her nephew, Richard H. Schaefer of Phoenix, two nieces, Laura Fox of Phoenix and Katie (Bill) Edmunds of St. Louis; and cousins, Julia Johnson of Indianapolis, Janet Clendenin and Kay Welsh of St. Louis, and Philip Wertenberger of Grapevine, Texas; and an Aunt Flo Ayers of Wolcott, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 29 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Hope, 315 NE 3rd Street, Washington, Indiana. Before, there will be an opportunity to visit with her family beginning at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Hope. Inurnment of ashes will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 929 W 140 North.

Linda’s family and friends would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and especially the staff and her care teams at the Villages at Oak Ridge for treating and caring for her like family. Donations in memory of Linda may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice of Jasper, 415 E. 6th Street, Jasper, IN 47546, or The Live a Dream program through the Trilogy Foundation at www.thetrilogyfoundation.com or The Trilogy Foundation, 303 North Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville.
