Carmen Harting Obituary

Carmen “June” Harting, 92 of Freelandville, went to her heavenly home on Friday, March 17, 2023.  She was a lifelong resident of Knox County and graduated from Bruceville High School in 1948.  She married Norman Harting on May 4, 1952, and they made a life together for 54 years.  She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Women’s Guild. She was a very talented singer and traveled with The King’s Singers in 1949 as a soloist and performed in the Midwest during concerts in churches and auditoriums.  She also sang for church services and weddings locally.  Her favorite songs to sing were “In the Garden”, “The Holy City”, and “O Holy Night”.  

 

     She is survived by her two children, Byron and Rita.  Byron has continued with the family farm which is a Centennial farm having been in the Harting family for over 100 years.  Byron is married to Donna (Pahmeier)Harting and they have two children, Seth married to Andrea Schroeder Harting and Kaylee Ravellette married to Kyle Ravellette.  She has five great grandchildren.  Amelia and Oliver Harting, Karly, Karoline, and Karson Ravellette.  Her daughter, Rita, is married to Donald Osburn. She also has one sister-in law, Colleen Tolliver. She has many surviving nieces and nephews.

   

       She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman who died Dec. 8, 2006, and five brothers, Robert, Randall, Marvel, Herschell, and Earl, and one sister, Mida Elliott Taylor.  Her parents, Schuyler Godfrey Elliott and Blanche Myers Elliott also preceded her in death.  

      Contributions may be made in June’s memory to Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia. A Funeral for Carmen will be held 12 P.M. Wednesday  March 22, 2023 at the Salem United Church of Christ 13135 N. Salem Road Westphalia IN 47596. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery.
