Thomas Joe Bunte

Thomas Joe Bunte, 84, of Bruceville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. He was born January 17, 1934, in Washington, Indiana, to the late William Henry and Pearl (Foreman) Bunte. Joe married his wife, Shirley Mattingly on June 26, 1954, and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1956-1958 in Fort Hood, Texas. Along with his brother Jerry, Joe owned and operated the Bunte Brothers’ Filling Station in Bruceville for many years. He then worked for, and eventually retired from, Weddle Brother’s construction in Bloomington. Joe loved spending time with family and friends, working on cars, and playing cards.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Shirley Ann Bunte; along with three children, Randy (Kathy) Bunte of Vincennes, Sherry (Jim) Gaither of Linton, and Jay Bunte of Freelandville; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Laura) Bunte, Nick (Tyler) Bunte, Jesse Gaither, and Emily (Jed) Bauer; 2 great-grandchildren, Kennedy Bunte and Ella Bunte; and one sibling, Jean Messel.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Bunte, his mother, Pearl Bunte, and two brothers, Jerry and David Bunte.

Graveside services for Joe Bunte will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Bicknell Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Matt Hoffman officiating. He will receive military honors from the All-Weather Firing Squad following service. Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
