Phyllis Willsey, 84, of Freelandville, died on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Freelandville Community Home. Phyllis was born August 3, 1934, in Portsmouth, OH, to John Wesley and Martha Alice (Scott) Rose. At the age of six, she and her family moved to Tampa, Florida. Phyllis graduated in 1952 from Plant High School in Tampa, then enrolled at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN in 1953. While at Johnson, she met Raymond R. “Dick” Willsey, and they were married in Tampa, FL on August 3, 1954. Their ministry service began in 1954 at the Red Quarry Christian Church in French Lick, IN and in 1958, they moved to Knox County, IN, where their ministry included two churches, the Freelandville Christian Church and the Mariah Creek Christian Church.
She is survived by her sons, Raymond R. Willsey Jr. and wife Carol of Clinton, IN and John Robert “Bob” Willsey of Freelandville, IN; daughter, Jessica Rose Willsey and husband Rodney Underwood of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Shonda Sue (Willsey) Bender and husband, Andy of Sheridan, IN, John Evan Willsey and wife, Lindsey of Evansville and Michael Ray Willsey of Clinton, IN.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the old Mariah Creek Church, 8978 E. Pepmeier Rd., Oaktown, IN. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Mariah Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to the Freelandville Community Home in Freelandville, IN.
