Elfrieda M. (Spanger) Hartsburg, 86, Scottsburg, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Hampton Oaks Healthcare Campus in Scottsburg. Elfrieda was born March 15, 1932, in Edwardsport, the daughter of Henry C. and Frieda M. (Albrecht) Spanger. She married her first husband, Phillip A. Fields on December 20, 1952. She then married Dale H. Hartsburg in November 1996. She was a telephone operator for General Electric and also worked at Crane. Elfrieda enjoyed singing, playing the organ, quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a life time member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia.
Elfrieda is survived by her daughter, Peggy A. (Curtis) Carter of Pekin; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Rush of Crown Point, IN, Edna Berry of Linton and Helen Lee of Lafayette; and daughter-in-law, Bertie Fields.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Frieda Spanger; husbands, Phillip Fields on July 15, 1993 and Dale Hartsburg in June 2011; son, William C. Fields; sisters, Dorothea Shake and Martha Hammelman and brother, Walter Spanger.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Salem United Church of Christ, 13135 Salem St. Westphalia, IN 47596 with Pastor Bryan Taylor officiating.
