Beulah Brothers Obituary

Beulah M. Brothers passed away on July 31,2019 at Prairie Village Nursing Home in Washington. She was born on October 5,1921 in Knox County, the daughter of Lloyd and Josie (Carrico) Hill.  On September 20,1941 she married Howard C Brothers and he preceded her in death in 1982 after 42 years of marriage.

Beulah had lived on a farm until she was married, during the great depression she remembered that they always had food, they raised their own food and butchered their own meat. Men worked on their farm for only a dollar a day, her and her sister would milk the cows by hand which each cow was named. After she had married and left the farm her parents got a milking machine.  Beulah remembered the big library table in the middle of the room where they would read by an Aladdin oil lamp. In 1937 when she was 16 the family had electricity installed and Beulah said she couldn’t go to bed that night cause “time changes everything”.

She became a member of the Mariah Creek Christian Church where Rev. Vetters baptized her in 1939. She had many lovely memories at the church where the pews were full every Sunday.  After the war Beulah worked at Ivers Brothers tree service where she was the bookkeeper.  She then focused on being a homemaker. She loved cooking and was known for her fried chicken, and German chocolate cake. For many years the family enjoyed Thanksgiving she had prepared.  She loved her home and garden where even the dandelions were beautiful in the spring.

Beulah is survived by her two nephews; Mike Hill of Bruceville, and Steve(Debbie) Hill of Bicknell.  Along with her husband and her parents, a brother Ellis Hill and a sister Phyllis J. Harrison preceded her in death.
